Laser Centres in Africa for LAM Network

Algeria

Centre de développement des Technologies Avancées
CDTA, 128 chemin Mohamed Gacem, El Madania
Alger, ALGERIE

Co-ordinator
Dr Gasmi Taeb
CDTA, 128, chemin Mohamed Gacem, El Madania
Alger, ALGERIE

The laboratory was established in 1985 within the CDTA, and is structured in four researches groups namely : the solid state laser group, gaseous laser group, atomic and molecular laser spectroscopy group and finally, the laser material processing research group. The CDTA is encouraging the scientific collaboration with all the scientists from African research institutions as long as a common research field of interest is identified.

Egypt

National Institute of Laser Enhanced Science (NILES)

University of Cairo
El-Giza, EGYPT

Co-ordinator
Prof. Yosr Ezz El-Din
National Institute of Laser Enhanced Science (NILES)
University of Cairo
El-Giza, EGYPT

The institute is very well equipped with different types of lasers. It has been established to stimulate the co-operation of all the laser scientists in the surrounding countries. Such co-operation will help in enhancing the south-south common research programs and mainly the LAM Network exchange programs.

Ghana

Laser and fibber Optic Centre
Department of Physics, University of Cape Coast
Cape Coast, GHANA

Co-ordinator
Prof. Buah Basssuah
LAFOC, Department of Physics
University of Cape Coast
Cape Coast, GHANA

The LAFOC is an ICTP affiliated centre. The centre undertakes basic research in light scattering and interferometry with application in agriculture and environment monitoring. A Ph. D programme supported by the Office of External Activities (OEA) of ICTP is going to be ran in the centre.

Senegal
